Prepare for your portrait session with our corporate photographer’s 6 key tips
Portrait photography is an important part of any professional career, as it helps create a polished image of yourself and your business. But before you step in front of the camera with a corporate photographer, there are a few things you can do to ensure better results and make sure your portraits turn out as good as possible.
Get 6 key tips below to help you prepare for your photo session.
1. Bring multiple outfits to your photo session
We always recommend bringing 2–3 outfits to your session with a photographer.
This way, we can work together to achieve the right expression and create a story that reflects your personality.
You can review your outfits together with the photographer during your photo session to find out how to bring out the best expressions and choose the background that best complements you, your outfit, and your desired result.

2. Choose neutral colors for the best results
Neutral colors ensure that your clothing doesn’t draw attention away from your face. Avoid bright colors that can be too distracting.
The same goes for clothing that creates glare – such as silk shirts.
Your clothing should, of course, always reflect what you want your portrait to express. If your brand’s visual identity includes bold styles and prints, we will naturally work with that.
3. Avoid turtlenecks
Turtlenecks cover a significant part of the neck. This can draw attention away from the central facial features that are essential in a portrait.
That’s why we recommend avoiding turtlenecks in corporate portraits, where the focus should usually be on the face.
If you’re unsure about what to wear, you can always consult your photographer for professional guidance.

4. Drink plenty of water
Make sure to drink plenty of water the day before and leading up to your session.
This will give your skin a healthier glow, smooth it out, and reduce any dark circles under your eyes.
Drinking water can also help reduce redness or skin irritation that may be caused by stress, nervousness, or heat.
5. Neutral makeup
If you wear makeup, it’s a good idea to keep it minimal and stick to neutral tones.
Too much or overly colorful makeup can take the focus away from what we really want to capture in the photo – you.
By choosing neutral colors and tones for your makeup, it won’t compete with your face or draw attention away from your eyes, mouth, or other important facial features and characteristics.
However, the choice of makeup also depends on the desired outcome and the context of the portrait you are having taken.
For example, if you’re looking for a more dramatic or artistic look, a more experimental style of makeup may be the way to go.
It’s always a good idea to have a conversation with your photographer about your wishes and needs. That way, you’ll achieve the best result.

6. Clean-shaven or well-groomed beard
If you have a beard, make sure it’s trimmed and/or be clean-shaven.
It’s best to trim your beard a couple of days before the photo session to avoid redness or small cuts appearing in your pictures.
In general, shaving or maintaining a well-groomed beard conveys greater professionalism, which will shine through in your portraits.
And remember – as our photographer Christian always says: “There are no bad models, only bad photographers.”
